Summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime…..
It’s here and action packed. Since it’s been awhile since you’ve heard from me, I thought I’d write a quick little catch-up blog.
Most of you who read my blog and live here have noticed the substantial changes to our building. The external facelift got me thinking about a small town clean-up initiative. We started by pulling together the business owners on our block to talk about consolidation of dumpster (pretty exciting stuff right?) and general clean-up. Very simple work has resulted in significant gains. And that’s not all, it seems that folks are painting, pounding, trimming, and scrubbing all over town. The whole county, and Grand Marais in particular, realized such incredible growth in traffic from last year, know that your investment does not go unnoticed. Thanks everyone!
Mud, Rain, Bikes and Fun
The Lutsen 99er weekend was an incredible success. There was not a room to be had across the county and I even saw one rider pitch a tent at Lutsen halfway up Hari Kari. Many visitors now realize that they need to make their reservations early. Over 200 kids gathered for the kid’s races on Sunday and Murray the Moose greeted all. Thanks to all the local volunteers and to Lutsen Mountains for supporting this event. View photos from visitors to the event in this social media gallery.
Would you be available for a TV interview?
Fox21 stopped in yesterday. I am always grateful and happy to talk to our “local” media. Cook County and all of our communities are gaining traction. Two of our state senators and one representative have visited in the past two months. They want to know how they can help us and also hear about the ways we are working to support our tourism economy. And Fox21 wanted to know what we have going on for the July 4th celebration. You won’t find many areas supporting three fireworks displays. How cool is that?
Linda on the Road
Last but not least, I attended a conference earlier this week with many of my peers from across the state. I heard from more than one about how lucky we are. Not only lucky to live in this magnificent place but so blessed to be able to talk about it and market our wonders to the world.
Here is a short list of some of our recent media grabs and accolades.
